Sam Warburton wants to ensure Wales maintain their impressive recent record against France with a win in Paris on Saturday.

Wales can still finish second in this season’s Six Nations, and Warburton wants his team to continue their five-game winning streak against Le Bleus.

He said: “If we finish second that’s not a bad championship. It wouldn’t be great as our goal is to win, but if we come second that is not too bad. That is the motivation for the guys going out to France.

“We have a good record against France of late, so we want to extend that run.

“We play France every season so we are very used to playing them. You know what France are like, they are probably going to want to look to their driving game. They’ve got some fantastic ball carriers, not just in the pack, but in their backline as well.”

Lionel Nallet and Vincent Clerc were on the scoresheet when France last beat Wales in 2011. But on their last two visits to the French capital, Wales have come out 16-6 and 20-13 victors.

“We definitely want to back up the Ireland win against France,” Warburton added.

“Even though it took a lot of energy out of us emotionally, we want to win away to France in Paris.

“We’ve had some great wins out there. We won out there in 2013 and that turned that championship around, so the boys have good experiences out there.”

Warburton insists there was no time for celebrating the 22-9 victory over Ireland and says the focus is purely on toppling Guy Noves’ French side.

He said: “We know that if we are to win in Paris we will have to produce our best performance. We are pleased with the way we played against Ireland, but there weren’t a lot of pats on the back.

“There were a lot of times when, in the second half, we made errors where we shouldn’t have, and we could have lost that game. So we’ve still got a bit of an edge about us, because we want to put those things right and put in a better performance against France.”
