Both sides have qualified for the new global WXV tournament but the winner of the clash in the Welsh capital will qualify for WXV2 in South Africa with the runner-up playing in WXV3 in Dubai.

Wales beat Italy 22-20 in the final game of the Women’s Six Nations front of a record 10,592 crowd at the Principality Stadium at the end of April.

The Arms Park has become the spiritual home of Hannah Jones’ Wales side, having set the previous record crowd of 8,500 at the Arms Park, followed with record crowds against Scotland and France at the same venue during the recent Six Nations.

Wales will face a Spain side that won the last Test match between the two sides 29-5 back in November 2019. Spain won their last Test match when they beat Sweden 53-0 in the European Championship.

Welsh rugby supporters will get the chance to enjoy two games with this crucial Test match being followed by a Classic Lions v the Armed Forces Legends charity game at the same venue.

Ioan Cunningham, Wales Head coach, said: “This is a major Test match to decide what tier of WXV we play in at the end of the year. The squad, coaches and staff know how important this game is for all of us.

“Our victory against Italy in the Six Nations provides us with a platform to build on and to move forward with the 2025 World Cup in England still very much the focus for the team.

“One of the goals we have set ourselves is to build the depth and competition for places in the squad and we did that with six new caps getting a taste of Test match rugby during our last campaign.

“Spain have been one of the traditional benchmarks in our game and will travel to Wales full of confidence after their recent performances. We know they will be determined to make a statement against us at home in front of our own supporters at Cardiff Arms Park.”

The Classic Lions v Armed Forces Legends charity match will feature a host of former Test players, with former Wales and Lions Test star Mike Phillips and Wales fly-half Ceri Sweeney, kicking off at 5pm.

Rock2Recovery will be the match day charity and supports those in the Armed Forces and the Veterans Community, including the Emergency Servies and their families affected by stress by providing personal coaching.

Charlie Hobson, Rock2Recovery Company Officer, said: “Rock2Recovery provides non-clinical intervention coaching for any member of the Armed Forces, veterans, their families and members of the Emergency Services. We aim to change and save lives on a daily basis.

“All coaching is free and unlimited; so, every £600 raised often leads to an entire family in a much better shape.  We encourage clients to find their rock that will help them cope with daily stresses.

“So, for us to share the iconic Cardiff Arms Park Stadium with the Wales Women’s XV in their important international against Spain is wonderful and we hope that spectators will have a great day watching two superb matches full of some of the greats of rugby.  Thank you, Wales.”
