Wales captain Sam Warburton says that past successes have made his side only more determined to win this year’s RBS 6 Nations Championship crown back to Cardiff, ahead of hosting France at Principality Stadium on Friday night.

Both sides coming into the match unbeaten in the tournament so far, Wales having defeated Scotland and drawn with in Ireland, whilst France have beaten Italy and Ireland at home.

The hosts will seek a fifth straight RBS 6 Nations win over their opponents, a run stretching back to 2012, when Wales won the first of back-to-back Six Nations titles.

Speaking ahead of the third round of the tournament this year, Warburton believes past experiences have only left this Welsh side more determined.

“With this group of players we won two Six Nations together in 2012 and 2013 then the last two we haven’t won,” said Warburton.

“That has helped us realised, which we probably didn’t back then, just how hard it is to win a Six Nations campaign, how difficult that was to achieve.

“We’ve all been working particularly hard to get the title back in Wales because we have realised how difficult it is.

“We definitely want to get another title under our belt and believe that we have got a great chance to do that this year.”

Warburton was also asked about the team’s ability consistent ability to come back from adversity, evident most recently when coming from 13-0 down to drawn in Dublin against defending RBS 6 Nations champions Ireland.

The skipper explained that confidence in the ability across the squad and good fitness work enable such character.

“I think we’ve had game across the last four years where we have gone down in the first-half and we’ve always managed to fight out way back.

“There has only been one game I can remember being involved in where that didn’t happen, in the 6 Nations in Dublin back (in 2013).

“We’ve always managed to claw our way back in and I think that is just the confidence levels the players have in each other.

“We work extremely hard away from the playing pitch and that gives us confidence in the fitness levels the players have which allows us to fight our way back across the whole 80 minutes.”
