Alfie Passed Fit For Ospreys Visit

Gareth Thomas has been passed fit to face Neath-Swansea Ospreys on Thursday after making an immediate impact for new club Toulouse.
Fears that the ankle injury that ruled him out of Wales’ summer tour to Argentina and South Africa would force him to miss the visit of the Welsh region were alleyed after emerging unscathed from his opening games for the Heineken Cup finalists.
And the record Wales try scorer wasted no time in making a good impression on his new employers following his protracted transfer with a try in only his second game.
Thomas, playing at full-back, scored the third of Toulouse’s nine tries in their 61-21 victory over Dax in Sunday’s pre-season friendly days after impressing in his debut against Perpignan.
“There’s absolutely no worries at all over the ankle problem Gareth suffered against the Barbarians last May as he’s already set about scoring tries for his new club,” said agent Peter Underhill.
“He has played the full 80 minutes in both pre-season friendlies so far so will be fine for the game against the Ospreys, in fact he’s really looking forward to it.
“He’s got some good friends at the Ospreys, especially the players from the Celtic Warriors, and he’s excited at the prospect of catching up with them.
“Certainly the early signs are looking very good for Gareth both on and off the pitch at Toulouse.”
Thomas will certainly be eager to show the double European champions were right to pursue their interest in him despite the chaos surrounding his move.
The original tog o war between Toulouse and Leighton Samuel was thrown into further turmoil following the collapse of the Celtic Warriors region until the Welsh Rugby Union finally backed down in their demands for the £100,000 transfer fee.
Tomorrow’s friendly at Bagneres is Toulouse’ last game to prepare for their opening game of the French Championship at Pau a week today.
