Ospreys centre Owen Watkin is hoping his partnership with Scott Williams can help him reach new heights.

Williams joined the Liberty Stadium outfit from the Scarlets this summer and was impressive on his competitive debut as Allen Clarke’s side beat Edinburgh. And Watkin is confident their partnership will only get better.
“I think my first game with Scott went brilliantly,” said the 21-year-old.

“We were solid defensively as a back line and we did well in attack. We had two tries and we were pretty pleased with that.

“Having Scott Williams outside of me is amazing. I’ve gone from having Ashley Beck outside me to Scott and they are both great players.

“As a young player that’s going to help me out loads. Scott has a great kicking game and he’s got some nice grubber kicks in his locker which is massive for us because it give us more options in our back line.

“He’s very experienced and he talks a lot out on the field which is also very helpful. Hopefully we can push each other on to new heights which is only going to benefit the Ospreys and Wales.”

Williams wasn’t the only star signing to arrive in Llandarcy this summer with Wales and British & Irish Lions wing George North joining along with back coach Matt Sherratt from the Cardiff Blues. And Watkin is excited at the potential in this Ospreys back line ahead of this Saturday’s clash with the Cheetahs in Swansea.

“Our structure has changed from last season,” he said.
“We are trying to get our wingers and centres on to the ball more often to give us more attacking threats. The main thing for us is that we are working hard for each other so we are getting around the corner and creating more opportunities.

“We were only inches away from scoring four or five tries. I think the Cheetahs will be better than what they were against Munster but we are looking forward to the challenge.

“We want to get some points on the board and keep moving forward. We need to keep the ball rolling.”
