John Mulvihill’s men produced an impressive team display i their Guinness PRO14 opener with Leinster and led all the way until with just a few minutes to spare, the Irish side grabbed a late, match-winning try.
The Blue travel to Italy this weekend to face a strong Benetton outfit who beat the Dragons in round one.
“We had two chances to score against Leinster and we didn’t take them,” said Wales flanker and Blues captain Jenkins.
“You can’t expect to make the amount of mistakes we made against Leinster and win. We had two tries rightly disallowed and then we had a driving line-out which has gone to ground and we dropped the ball.
“It resulted in us being 60 yards down the field.
“It was a gutting one for us. I asked the boys to work hard for each other before the game and by the end they were out on their feet.”
Despite their opening round defeat, Jenkins is adamant the Blues are heading in the right direction.
The Arms Park outfit lost their opening game against Edinburgh last season yet still went on to win silverware.
“I was really proud of the performance, but a couple of key moments let us down against Leinster,” he said.
“We thought we would win and we should have won, but we are not hitting the panic button.
J“arrod Evans was excellent and keeps on showing his class and I’m really happy for Jason Harries who has worked really hard in pre-season.
“He’s a good athlete and he finished his tries well. All we want is the boys working hard for each other.”
