With a waterlogged home pitch, and the Scrum V television cameras at the match, the game was transferred from Brynmawr Rec to the Comprehensive School ground to ensure the game went ahead. The visitors had to rely on the boot of outside half Dean Gunter to kick five penalties, while the home side scored three tries.

Wing Josh Congreve and full back Geraint Langdon got over the Brecon try line and the referee also awarded the home side a penalty try. Dan Butler kicked the rest of the points.

“Our pitch was waterlogged so we had to move the youth team off the school pitch to ensure we got the game on.

It was a great contest and the only disappointment in the end was that we didn’t get the bonus point,” said Brynmawr secretary, Rob Kershaw.

“We dominated the game up front and it was great to finally beat Brecon after losing the last three games to them.”

Penallta’s 16-9 win at Blaenavon made it five out of five for the Pitmen and moved them into second place, two points behind Brynmawr, who they host on 4 November. Nelson moved into fourth place with a 32-28 win at Caerleon.

In Division 1 West Central the top of the table clash between Maesteg Celtic and Boymaen fell foul of the weather and that allowed Kenfig Hill to move up into second place with a comfortable 34-13 home win over Resolven. Ystalyfera are now third thanks to a 20-19 triumph at home over Maesteg.

Dunvant stretched their unbeaten run in Division 1 West to five games with a 37-17 home win over Kidwelly. Hooker Ceri Davies grabbed a second half hat-trick of tries and wing Sam Evans kicked five penalties and a conversion.

Kidwelly led 10-6 in the first half and refused to go away. Steff Davies and Dafyon Phillips scored tries and Liam Smith converted them both and added a penalty.

Reigning Division 1 East Central champions Treorchy were far too powerful in the rain for Rumney as they extended their lead at the top to four points with a 52-0 home win while second placed Ystrad Rhondda were beating Rumney 16-14.

In North Wales, Ruthin weren’t able to recreate their heroics of the previous weekend when they beat Nant Conwy as they slipped to a 37-8 defeat at Pwllheli. The reigning Division 1 North champions now lead the table by three points.

Nant got back to winning ways with a 24-0 home win over Dolgellau. Sion Pringle, Ifan Hughes and Carwyn Davies scored first half tries, one of which Arthur Lennon converted.

In the second half Lennon added a try and conversion 10 minutes from time to secure the bonus point. Bangor beat Abergele 24-10 away from home.
