Wales take on Scotland, France and Italy in the first matches to be played at the, to be newly named, 74,500 capacity, Principality Stadium at the heart of the Welsh capital and fans have been picking up tickets at unprecedented rates.

A Welsh Rugby Union record of 40,000 tickets have been sold so far this week – with pre-sales to clubs, districts and debenture holders accounting for the rest – the previous record for 6 Nations tickets sold in this way was 28,000 in the first week of public sale in 2013.

The Scotland fixture is set to sell out in the coming days, but the Scots may first play a role in Wales’ Rugby World Cup destiny, as they line-up as one of three potential quarter-final opponents – alongside South Africa and Japan – in the final round of RWC Pool fixtures this weekend.

Whatever happens in the England 2015 tournament, Scotland’s place in Welsh history is already assured as they will be the first side to be welcomed to Principality Stadium, in the RBS 6 Nations second round on Saturday 13th February (kick-off 4.50pm).

France are up next when they travel to Wales on Friday 26th February (kick-off 8.05pm), before the Italians come to town on the final weekend of the Championship, Saturday 19th March (kick-off 2.30pm).

In accordance with the WRU’s constitution, the tickets for Wales home 2016 RBS 6 Nations matches were first offered for sale via the Union’s 320 member clubs or districts.

Clubs have already earned over £200,000 in commission from their ticket sales, money which is fed directly back into the game, and fans are still encouraged to visit their clubs to buy tickets where a range of categories and some of the best seats may still be available.

For the Scotland game only single tickets are available from the WRU website, at £75 or £65, for France tickets are still available at £80 and to watch the Italians face Wales at Principality Stadium in their final match of the 2016 Championship remaining tickets cost £60 – booking fees apply.

Fans can purchase tickets from their local club, https://wru.wales/tickets, by calling 0844 847 1881 or in person at the WRU ticket office.

“The response to tickets going on public sale has been impressive,” said a WRU ticket office spokesperson.

“We have sold over 40,000 tickets across the three matches since going on sale on Monday, which is a WRU record, and demand has remained consistent.

“Fans have the extra incentive of being the first to watch Wales at Principality Stadium for the Scotland clash, but there is no doubt that the Rugby World Cup factor has come into to play as well.

“The profile of the game has never been higher with tickets for the 2016 RBS 6 Nations matches at Principality Stadium in high demand.”
