Springbok skipper Jean de Villiers expects an epic battle in the opening Dove Men Series Test this Saturday.

De Villiers and his fellow South Africans have arrived in Wales on the back of an impressive Rugby Championship campaign in which they were in the running for a first title since 2009 until the final afternoon.

Heyneke Meyer’s men also face Scotland and France this month but de Villiers insists all eyes are on their mammoth Millennium Stadium clash as they look to make it 14 straight wins over Wales.

“We’re all very excited to be here and we are looking forward to the challenge of playing three very tough Test matches on this tour,” he said.

“At this stage, we’re not looking past the Wales Test, which promises to be an epic match.

“We had three hard days of training in Johannesburg before we left, but the weather was warm and sunny. As we drove into Wales, it started raining and we’re expecting similar conditions this week.

“We’ll adapt to the conditions this week but we still want to go out there and play positive attacking rugby.

“Playing the Six Nations Champions will be a big challenge, but that is why we all love playing Test rugby.”

South Africa are expected to name their team to face Wales this Wednesday, with Meyer likely to pick a side packed full of power.

Wales will be looking for a repeat of their 26-19 victory over the Springboks when they christened the Millennium Stadium in style back in 1999 but they will have to buck a historical trend if they are to achieve that feat.

Wales have tasted glory just once in 26 attempts against South Africa and they haven’t beaten the Boks since that Millennium Stadium opener.
