All systems go says Edwards

Shaun Edwards has praised Wales’ recent Six Nations record as they prepare for the final two games of this year’s Championship.

After wins away to France and Italy, Rob Howley’s men have bounced back well from an opening day defeat to Ireland.

A clean sweep of five wins in last year’s tournament saw Wales secure a third Grand Slam in eight years and Edwards believes Wales’ form in the competition is second to none.

“It’s all systems go for two huge weeks,” said the Wales defence coach.

“I was looking at the record books recently and these lads have been absolutely fantastic over the last three years.

“I honestly believe we’re judged on the Six Nations and we’ve only lost one game in the last 11. If we make that one in 13 you have to say it’s an impressive record.

“From my department the last two games have been as good as I can expect from a rugby team.

“We’ve only conceded three defensive points in two matches so if we can continue that form over the next two games we’re in with a chance.”

Wales face a trip to Murrayfield on Saturday to take on a Scottish side who have surprised many in this campaign.

Under former Wales boss Scott Johnson, Scotland have looked a threat behind the scrum with the likes of Stuart Hogg and Sean Maitland impressing.

And Edwards knows the threat these players can cause to the Welsh defence.

“Scotland have got momentum as well so it’s two evenly matched teams,” he added.

“I’ve watched Hogg and he’s certainly a very good player but we have a pretty good number 15 ourselves.

“You have to be careful about Hogg and his counter attack and obviously both their wingers can score tries but if you tinker it too much you get away from what you’re good at.

“They’ve got big powerful ball carriers in the centre and I think their number nine is a very clever rugby player. He lifts his head up and counts the numbers in front of him.”

Wales name their team to face Scotland at 1pm on Tuesday.
