Edwards: Wales are ready

Defence coach Shaun Edwards believes Wales are better prepared than ever ahead of their clash with Argentina tomorrow.

After a tough preparation camp in Spala, Poland last week, Edwards believes Wales are in tip-top shape as they prepare for the first of four autumn internationals.

“We’ve had a pretty thorough preparation, Tuesday was the most physical session we’ve had since the Rugby World Cup,” he said.

“I feel more prepared for this autumn series than ever before, the time we spent in Poland will hopefully be worth it on Saturday.”

Wales take on an Argentina side who have impressed many observers with their performances in the recent Rugby Championship. And Edwards knows Wales are taking on one of the world’s best sides at the Millennium Stadium.

“To improve we’ve got to play the best sides in the world and I’m expecting to play a world power on Saturday,” he added.

“We’re expecting the team that played in the Rugby Championship, the team that drew with South Africa.

“As the competition went on they got stronger and stronger, we’re expecting a tough challenge.

“I know they have lost Albacete but I’m sure they have someone to replace him. They are very, very big men, very athletic.”

Wales may be without the likes of Adam Jones, Dan Lydiate and Ryan Jones but Edwards believes those coming into the side are more than capable of stepping up to the mark.

One of those getting a chance to impress is Josh Turnbull. The Scarlet starts in the back-row in place of the injured Lydiate after impressing for his region so far this season.

Turnbull has played most of his regional rugby at seven so far this season but Edwards believes he has the ability and fitness to fill the gap left by Lydiate’s injury.

“In Josh we’ve got a very fit young man,” he added. “I really feel he has the fitness to cover for Dan.”

Turnbull starts alongside Toby Faletau in the back row with Edwards also impressed with the Dragon’s man.

“I think Toby’s form during the World Cup was sensational,” he said. “He’s had a few weeks rest and hopefully he’ll be jumping out of his skin on Saturday.”

Tickets for the clash with Argentina will be available right up until kick-off at 2.30pm from the new WRU Ticket Store in St David’s shopping complex as well as the Ticketline shop on Westgate Street and official WRU outlets at the Hayes and Cardiff Blues Ticket Shop.
