Between late August and early October, just under 100 community events linked to the scheme took place across Wales.

The Join the Beat campaign aims to encourage as many coaches, volunteers, referees and players to get involved in community rugby as possible.

Of the 96 fun days which took place over the last month or so, one of the biggest was held at Bedlinog.

The day was aimed at encouraging more people and families to become involved in the club whatever their previous experience of involvement in rugby.

Local youngsters from the youth club helped prepare the club by putting up banners and decorating the decking. They also helped its promotion by delivering leaflets door to door throughout the village and by providing the catering.

Good weather saw the event held outside with 80 to 100 people attending. Most importantly, Bedlinog were successful in recruiting a vice chairman, a new club president, two first aiders and six volunteers for catering and hospitality. A sub committee to access funding and clubs repairs in the future was also set up.

The hugely successful event was just one of many which took place with club staff hoping the buzz created from the event will hopefully bring success on and off the field.

Other notable events included Crynant’s world record attempt at the most number of passes completed and an open training session and fun day at Cwmavon.

Haverfordwest recruited 24 new club members from their open fun day which included eight new players, five new coaches, a manager and two referees. Meanwhile Morriston were lucky enough to see their event coincide with the visit of the Triple Crown and Grand Slam trophies to their club. More than 100 people attended the course with a number of new players joining the club’s U7 and U11sides.
