The veteran flanker is set to win his 100th cap off the bench at the Millennium Stadium, before he hangs up his boots in the summer.
McBryde has paid tribute to the man known as ‘Nugget’ and urged Wales to secure a memorable victory for the two-time Grand Slam winner.
“I remember Martyn winning his first cap against the Baa-Baas not so long ago.
“I’m sure everyone is looking forward to seeing him on the pitch and hopefully we can make it a successful day for him.
“Everyone wants to come here to pay their respect and show their appreciation for a true Welsh talisman like Martyn.
“He is well respected not only by his own team-mates but those he’s played against. Hopefully he can be a menace again. He epitomises the small guy against the big guy.
“He’s had some memorable moments in his career. He turned the tide against France in 2005 Grand Slam, with a moment of individual brilliance to score a sneaky try.
“He has experienced lows but thankfully mostly highs and hopefully tomorrow will be another. About 50,000 tickets have been sold so it should be a great occasion.”
Wales have already sent 16 players to Australia in preparation for their first Test with the Wallabies but McBryde insists the Dragons have enough experience to cope with the star-studded Baa-Baas.
He also revealed places on the second plane Down Under are still up for grabs and urged his charges to make the most out of their opportunity in Cardiff.
“It’s a very important game, the first opportunity for the three individuals making their debuts (Rhodri Jones, Liam Williams and Harry Robinson), and we have a tough month ahead,” said McBryde. It’s the first game of five in quick succession.
“It’s important that every player makes the most of every chance the get. We’ve also got plenty of experience with the likes of Martyn, Ryan Jones, Ian Evans and Alun Wyn Jones.
Wales will also bid farewell to record try-scorer Shane Williams, who will turn out in the black and white hoops of the Barbarians.
And following the wing wizard’s late heroics in his Wales finale against Australia in December and two tries against Leinster in his last Ospreys appearance last weekend, McBryde has urged caution.
“He’s made his mark in his final game for Wales and the Ospreys but hopefully we can stop him doing the same tomorrow,” added the Wales forwards coach.
“The Barbarians are full of players with individual flair. Shane will be keen to get his hands on the ball as much as he can to show what we will miss.
“Shane has served Welsh rugby very well and hopefully tomorrow will be a fitting occasion to both Shane and Martyn’s careers.”Â
