Warburton said today: ”We are very grateful to the Welsh Government and Cardiff council for offering us this opportunity to thank the supporters.

“We know it is a great honour for us to be invited to the Senedd and if fans turn up to greet us it will make for a great occasion. The squad has been totally focused on rugby for several weeks and now we want to take this opportunity to greet the supporters.

“All of us know how important rugby is here in Wales and we are humbled by the level of support we get from followers of  our sport and from the general public. All the other six nations teams have provided worthy opposition and made this a tough tournament to win which makes the victories so important to savour.

“We know there is a lot of tough rugby ahead but we are delighted at the invitation from the Welsh Govenrment to take a moment or two to reflect on the achievement of winning this Grand Slam here in Wales.”

The Senedd reception is being hosted by the Welsh Government and is supported by Cardiff council.

The event will start at 6pm on tomorrow (Monday March 19) when the squad arrives at the Senedd to be greeted at a private reception hosted by the First Minister and the Presiding Officer.

At around 6.30pm the squad will line up on the steps outside the building when the First Minister will formally represent the RBS 6 Nations Trophy to the coach and captain.

Then formal photographs will be taken amid an opportunity for fans to show their support for the team.

The short event will take place against a backdrop of music and conversation as the tone is set for the presentation photographs.

Children from local schools will hand the Grand Slam trophy to First Minister, Carwyn Jones, for him to formally represent to the Wales squad.

Members of the public are advised to arrive early to ensure getting in position to see the team receive the trophy.
