RBS trophy in Rodney ‘parade’

Junior players from the Dragons’ District teams will parade the RBS Six Nations trophy ahead of the Dragons’ clash with Glasgow Warriors on Sunday.

The players, from the Caerphilly and Gwent Junior districts, will parade the trophy around the Newport ground ahead of the Magners League clash (kick-off 4.05pm). The players range in age from U12 to U16 and are selected from their clubs to represent the district in inter-district games.

This season the U12-U14 Caerphilly district teams have competed against the Heart of Wales and Cardiff districts along with Gwent district playing against teams from Pontypridd and Taff Rhondda.


The U15 teams played each other plus home and away fixtures with Pembrokeshire, whilst the U16 side play in an inter-district competition with Gwent and have made it to the final, which will be played on April 1st at Aberavon RFC. All of these players have benfitted from training sessions three to four times a month along with two fitness and conditioning sessions.


The inter-district squads are controlled by WRU development officers, who look for continuous development of these district players through their skill work, fitness and conditioning sessions. Senior Dragons players who have come through the district set up include Ashley Smith, Lewis Evans, Jamie Corsi, Richard Wilkes and Gareth Maule.
