Wales U18 centre Beck raced 40 metres for a stunning try and outside half Garland chipped in with two penalties and a drop goal to help their side move from 10th to seventh in the table

A second home try from hooker Chris Wells extended the lead to 19-3, but Swansea hit back with two tries of their own, from fullback Ricky Williams and wing Nicky Thomas, to creep back to 19-18 and salvage a bonus point.

There were smiles all round at the Brewery Field as Bridgend notched their first win of the season. The Ravens ran in three tries in a 33-14 home win over Konica Minolta Cup holders Llandovery.

Although the power of the visitors’ pack earned them two penalty tries, home touchdowns from wing Richard Radford, outside half Gareth Knox and replacement Jonathan Jones finally gave Ravens Coach Chris Stephens something to celebrate.

Cross Keys came back from the dead at Maesteg to overturn a 10 point deficit and emerge with a share of the spoils. A 76th minute penalty from Leon Andrews was followed by an 80th minute Lloyd Burns try which Andrews converted to force the draw.

Maesteg centre Mike Davies had scored a first-half try, which Luke Richards converted, and a Richards’s penalty had given the home team a handy 10 point interval lead. But Keys kept going to the end and picked up two points.

Four first half penalties from Ebbw Vale wing Simon Hunt were enough to condemn Cardiff to a second successive defeat. Gareth Davies and Craig Evans kicked the visitors back to 12-9, but they couldn’t get any closer.

Pontypridd outscored Llanelli by two tries to one – Chris Clayton and Duane Goodfield crossing for the visitors – but could only manage a 13-13 draw at Stradey Park. Scarlets centre Jon Davies ran in the Llanelli try and Dan Evans kicked the rest of the points.

Reigning champions Neath finally battered brave Bedwas into submission with a five try onslaught in a 34-13 win at the Gnoll, while the ever-improving Wanderers followed up their victory at Cardiff the previous weekend with another notable triumph over Newport.

The Wanderers were forced to hit back from a 10-7 interval deficit before recording a 20-16 victory. Fullback Charlie Johnson and centre Dafydd Hewitt scored the home tries and Luke Ford converted both and kicked a penalty. But the decisive score came from wing Mark Roper with a late drop goal that ended Newport’s hopes of a revival.
