“I’m pleased from a rugby point of view, as are the players, that we will face Munster at our home,” said Davies. “I respect and understand why there might have been a case to move the game but now the decision has been made we can all look forward to a great day out.

“I’m sure it will be a proud day for all of us and it will provide a great opportunity for our own fans to match the Munster supporters who are vociferous in their support of Munster.”

Chief Executive Stuart Gallacher stated: “We’ve made an early decision on the venue to end speculation from both media and spectators that we were moving the game away from Stradey Park.”

He added: “Our players and supporters deserve the best possible opportunity of progressing further in the knockout stages and we believe playing at Stradey Park gives us that chance.”

Details of ticketing, dates and kick-off times will be announced on Wednesday.
