The Millennium Stadium pulled out all the stops and hired in several hundred extra seats for the eagerly anticipated last game of the Invesco Perpetual Series to meet the demand of the Welsh team’s fantastic supporters. Tickets went on sale at 12 noon and by 12.03pm all extra seats had been sold.
The crowd will be in excess of 74,500 and will be packed to the rafters, guaranteeing that breathtaking Millennium Stadium atmosphere.
“The atmosphere at the Stadium with a crowd this size is going to be electric. We know the fans will be singing and supporting the team on the field at full volume – it’s going to be a memorable event,” commented Roger Lewis, WRU Group chief executive.
The Millennium Stadium is well versed in sell-out crowds and squeezing in extra seats is usually reserved for events such as the FA Cup Final, but this weekend is arguably the biggest fixture in the Welsh sporting calendar so bosses have left no stone unturned to ensure the maximum amount of fans get access to the game.
“We knew the interest was huge for this fixture and that is why we took action to use every available space to fit in these extra seats but to sell hundreds of tickets in three minutes is incredible,” added Paul Sergeant, Millennium Stadium chief executive.
“I’d like to encourage people to arrive in good time to avoid any delays, especially if they are collecting tickets, but also to make sure they arrive in time to soak up an exciting atmosphere and enjoy the pre-match entertainment, including an 800kg Welsh All Black bull on show!”
