The result of the weekend came in Division Three East, with Risca ending a run of 15 straight losses with a 27-20 win over Rhymney. Winger Gregg Plant scored a hat-trick of tries for Rhymney, but Risca’s pack dominated the set pieces, and tries to Alex Williams, Richard Evans and Lee Llewellyn gave the home side their first points of the season. At the top of the table, Abergavenny’s 34-6 mauling of Old Illtydians gives them a nine-point buffer over Senghenydd, who were surprise 24-18 losers at Cwmbran.

Division Three South East leaders Treherbert were made to fight all the way before escaping Tonyrefail with a 12-11 victory. Tonyrefail’s Rhudian Lewis scored the only try of the match, but Gareth Roberts’s four penalty goals gave the visitors all the points.
