Thomas Looks To Paris

Iestyn Thomas says Wales must put the disappointment of Saturday’s one-point defeat to Ireland behind them, and concentrate on the forthcoming match in Paris.

The Llanelli man said: ‘We have got to go to Paris now and show some consistency. We have to stick together, work on the areas where we were poor against Ireland and go to France with some confidence.

And Thomas can draw some confidence from his Millennium stadium showing, the 26-year-old spearheading an impressive home scrum and his agility in the loose suggests the Llanelli man will figure in Steve Hansen’s plans for the future.

‘We played well, a lot better than a lot of people expected, but at the end of the day it is another loss in a game we could and should have won.’

But Thomas was still upset to lose the match in such extreme circumstances.

‘We were very unlucky and it is extremely disappointing not to have won.

‘It was always going to be fair old battle there and I would like to think we came out on top, we put a lot of pressure on them,’ added Thomas.

France unchanged

Wales had victory snatched from them thanks to a moment of inspiration from replacement outside-half Ronan O’Gara. The Munsterman, who claims to never practise dropping goals, landed a monster kick moments after Stephen Jones had dropped Wales into the lead.

Wales now must secure victory in the Stade de France to avoid the wooden spoon and the whitewash no Welsh fan wants to see.
