Captain Siwan Lillicrap said, “We’ve hit the ground running. The players are embracing the experience of training and spending time together.

“We’ve done a lot of physical graft in pre-season. We’ve all worked really hard already but we’ve upped the rugby side of things in recent weeks and it’s nice to have a target and a match to prepare for.

“We want to see how far we’ve come since our last match against Canada last November. They are fourth in the world, a great side but we want to see the progress we’ve made on the pitch on Saturday.”

Head coach Ioan Cunningham said, “We’ve been here two days, adjusted well and our hosts have been very welcoming, the facilities are brilliant. We’ve got our first sessions out of the way, which is always important and we’re looking forward to the rest of the week.

“The players have worked really hard, they are still in a pre-season block and the focus is firmly on the world cup in New Zealand but this is a fantastic opportunity. We have a training session against Canada on Tuesday which will be so useful along with the Test match on Saturday.”
