Steve Tandy on Ireland v Wales

Hear from Wales men’s head coach Steve Tandy as he sat down with WRUtv ahead of our fourth match of the 2026 Guinness Six Nations away to Ireland at the Aviva Stadium on Friday 6 March (KO 8.10pm live on ITV1 and S4C).

Steve – three changes to the team this week tell us about that.
There are a couple of enforced changes due to injury and then the other one – we felt Ellis had played well in the opening couple of rounds, so he deserves the opportunity [again this week].

What do you want to see from the squad this week?
I think it’s about backing up from the performance against Scotland. Obviously, it’s a different context. Going away from home, is a different type of environment for our group, but the focus for us is really improving on what we did last [match]. I thought the defence against Scotland was much improved so we definitely want to double down on that going to Ireland. You see how they keep the ball in possession. They play lots of passes, so it’s something we know we’re going to have to build and improve from Scotland.

Finally a word on Louie Hennesseey who is selected among the replacements.
Louis was unfortunate not to get his opportunity in the autumn, but he’s trained really well. He had a bit of a bump on his hand at the start of this competition, but the way he’s recovered and put performances in the training environment [been very impressive]. Also when we look at Louis, whenever he’s represented Bath, all the feedback has been outstanding about him and we’re all excited to see Louis go out in Dublin.
