Wood spent his formative years entirely at Merthyr RFC where he began playing for the Under 6s. He went on to play for their mini, junior and youth sections.
He went to Dowlais Primary school before going to Pen y dre High school in Merthyr.
He spent two seasons with Coleg y Cymoedd where he captained the side in his second year. He has also captained Wales at U18 and U19 level.
He is currently studying sports coaching at Cardiff Met where he has also played in the Admiral Championship and BUCS for the university.
