The Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) has published a new microsite which is home to progress reports, detailed documents and supporting evidence behind its future operating model for the men’s professional game in Wales.
The site provides gathered data, reports and historical information, charting the path Welsh rugby has taken to establish its current strategic direction, summaries of the WRU’s plans and the evidence which it has used to support its decision-making process to date.

Included is the most recent externally commissioned independent analysis looking at data relevant to the location of new licences from the 2028/29 rugby season.
Openness and transparency throughout the transition to the new operating model is a vital part of the process for the WRU’s Board. The site also provides a comprehensive timeline and briefing on how the new licensing process will be shaped.
That process will begin with a ‘State of the Game’ summit in early December. The summit will see all key stakeholders involved in the running of the men’s professional game coming together to understand better the challenges facing the sport – both nationally and internationally. The summit will include the management teams and boards of the current men’s professional teams alongside the WRU leadership.
The microsite will be updated with new information and additional material across the season as the licence design and awarding process develops. The WRU will announce the licencing decisions by the end of June 2027.
