Normal service seems to have resumed in SRC with RGC fly half Billy McBryde racing to the top of the points table with 37 points next to his name. Last season’s double centurion has been a near ever present hogging the top of the table over the past two seasons and he’s opened up an eight point gap to nearest challenger, Cardiff’s Ben Coomer after the opening three rounds of the new campaign.
McBryde’s deadly boot has kept his side in the hunt in their three opening games against Newport, Carmarthen Quins and Ebbw Vale – but despite his best efforts the North Walians have only picked up the solitary win against the Quins so far but Jon Callard’s side have shown already they won’t go down without a fight.
Aberavon’s Frankie Jones finds himself at the top of the try scoring charts with five touch downs. However he has a posse of players breathing down his neck with RGC’s Sam Williams and Ebbw Vale duo Dafydd Thomas and Morgan Rees just one try behind.
Newport players figure prominently in a number of areas. Young centre Brogan Leary has made the most contact off-loads (9) with another youngster, Swansea’s Jack Hoskins right behind him with eight.
Leary, who played on the wing for Wales Under 20 in the summer junior World Cup, has also made five line-breaks, to nestle in behind teammate Fin Baker who leads the way with seven.
