Sean Lynn has named 14 uncapped players in the extended training squad

Head coach Sean Lynn has named an extended 46-player Wales training squad for the forthcoming four-match WXV Global Series.`

Wales face South Africa at Cardiff Arms Park on Friday 18 September (19.15) and USA (15:00) the following Saturday (September 26) at the same venue  before they hit the road to play two Test matches against Japan in October.

Lynn has named 14 uncapped players in the extended training squad, with the likes of Lily Hawkins, Amy Williams, Kelsie Webster, Stella Orrin and Lucy Issac, who all featured in the uncapped international against the Barbarians at Twickenham, named in the squad.

They are joined by new faces fly half Ffion Williams, prop Crystal James, hooker Shannelle Williams along with centre Savannah Picton Powell who returns to the squad after injury.

The extended Wales squad features 37 players who have played Celtic Challenge rugby for Brython Thunder and Gwalia Lightning.

Lynn, said: “This is a new look Wales squad for a new season as we prepare for an exciting and demanding WXV campaign.

“The players selected have all impressed and will be put through a robust pre-season training camp before we select the final squad for the Test matches against South Africa, USA and Japan.

“All the players were given individualised training programmes which they followed before meeting up for Block One of pre-season.

“High standards and clear expectations have been set for the players and that will allow us to have a real focus on the rugby.”
