As the Super Rygbi Cymru season prepares to crown another champion the success of the 10-team competition has been underscored by the news that RGC wing Caio Parry has been picked up by the Dragons.
Last season the Dragons offered professional contracts to the Newport duo of Dai Richards and Jac Lloyd after they helped the Black & Ambers win the SRC Trophy. After scoring 14 tries and leading the line breaks classification across the SRC, Parry has now been given his shot.
The Dragons have snapped up the 20-year-old GB Sevens flyer on a dual contract for the 2026-27 season. The former Wales U19 cap will join the Senior Academy at Rodney Parade on a dual contract that will also see him assigned to Pontypool.
The former Coleg Llandrillo student made his GB Sevens debut in Croatia at the Rugby European Championship Series in 2025.
“I’m really looking forward to joining Dragons and Pontypool next season. It’s a great opportunity for me to develop my game to the next level, learn from experienced players, and test myself in a professional environment,” said Parry.
“My ambition for the next few years is to breakthrough onto the professional scene and hopefully one day be able to represent my country.
“It’s hard to put into words how much my time at RGC has meant to me. I’d like to thank everybody who has helped me along the way from Caernarfon, through the RGC pathway and then into the senior group.”
RGC has produced a number of top-quality players down the years and both Ollie Cracknell and Sam Wainwright have gone on to win full Wales honours since leaving. George Nott and Sean Lonsdale are two other seasoned professionals who started their playing careers in north Wales, while George North, Rob McCusker and Robin McBryde all headed south to become internationals.
Billy McBryde was called up from the RGC team by the Scarlets to help out at No 10 this season and scrum half Efan Jones also recently spent a season and a half at Parc y Scarlets.
