DRAGONS 15 – 24 EDINBURGH
Scotland and British & Irish Lions wing Duhan van der Merwe scoffed two second half tries to secure a comeback victory for Edinburgh against the Dragons at Rodney Parade.
In what was the final home game of the season for the ‘Men of Gwent’, and for Wales No 8 Aaron Wainwright ahead of his summer departure to Leicester Tigers, and things were looking good when Keddie finished off one of the tries of the season to put his side in front.
Ewan Ashman and Tom Currie has crossed for first half tries for the visitors, both of which Ross Thompson converted, while the Dragons had a try from tight head prop Dillon Lewis and a conversion and penalty from Angus O’Brien to level the game hanging in the balance at 14-10.
Four minutes after the re-start a great run from deep by the outstanding Thomas Young got the Dragons on the move. Tinus de Beer’s grubber kick was then brilliantly picked up by Rio Dyer who sped down the left before combining with Rhodri Williams.
The scrum half then gave a scoring pass to the supporting Keddie, who dived over wide out. That gave the Dragons a one-point lead and head coach Filo Tiatia will Have been disappointed to have seen two other potential tries ruled out after the TMO came into the equation.
Edinburgh then came on strong and used Van der Merwe to great effect to snatch victory. His two tries also meant the Dragons left empty handed.
They now finish their season at Parc y Scarlets in a game that will determine which team finishes as the bottom Welsh region in the BKT United Rugby Championship for the season.
