OSPREYS 27 – 20 SCARLETS

Jac Morgan gave the Ospreys fans the perfect farewell gift as he powered over for a 75th minute try that earned his side the BKT United Rugby Championship Welsh Shield title in his final home appearance.

The Wales and British & Irish Lions flanker is heading to Gloucester this summer and gave a packed Brewery Field crowd something to remember him by as he inspired his side to complete the double over their west Wales rivals.

Scarlets interim director of rugby Nigel Davies was unhappy that his side picked up two yellow cards in a game in which the penalty against them was 19-4, yet they managed to turn a 17-5 interval deficit into a 20-17 lead with 23 minutes still to play.

Wales outside half Dan Edwards led the first half charge for the Ospreys as he crashed over for two tries and added seven points with his trusty boot. Aussie lock Max Douglas claimed the only points fo the Scarlets with his 10th minute try.

Scarlets centre Joe Roberts and prop Kemsley Mathias were both sent to the sin-bin in the opening 40 minutes, while Ospreys lock Ryan Jones followed them five minutes into the second half.

Joe Hawkins gave the Scarlets the perfect start to the second half with a penalty and two minutes after Smith’s departure Taine Plumtree crossed for a try that cut the gap to four points. Better was to follow in the 56th minute when Blair Murray burst through to score a try that Hawkins improved to give the visitors a 20-17 lead.

Both sides squandered chances in the final quarter before Morgan grabbed the try and the headlines to edge the Ospreys back in front. Edwards added the conversion and then sealed things with n added time penalty to complete a 22-point match haul.
