The Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) has opened applications for experienced coaches and educators to join its WRU Advanced Coaching Course Mentor Programme, a key role in supporting the next generation of high‑performing rugby coaches in Wales.

The Advanced Coaching Course represents the pinnacle of community coach development within the Welsh game. As part of this programme, WRU Advanced Coaching Mentors play a critical role in supporting, challenging, and developing course participants as they refine their coaching practice and leadership impact within their environments.

This opportunity is aimed at individuals who are passionate about Welsh rugby and motivated to contribute beyond their own coaching roles. Mentors will work one‑to‑one with Advanced Coaching Course candidates, supporting their individual development journeys and helping translate learning into meaningful practice.

The demands placed on modern coaches have never been greater. Today’s game requires expertise not only in tactics and technical delivery, but also in leadership, emotional intelligence, player welfare, and reflective practice.

WRU Advanced Coaching Mentors act as the critical bridge between potential and performance providing perspective, challenge, and support at key moments of a coach’s development. Through sharing experience, facilitating reflection, and encouraging high standards, mentors help develop the people who will shape the future of Welsh rugby.

This role offers experienced practitioners the opportunity to multiply their impact, contributing to coach development across clubs, communities, and pathways nationwide.

For a greater understanding of the requirements of the role, including its commitment, remuneration, eligibility criteria, key dates and the application process please go to the coaching section of the website which you can find on our community page under rugby engagement or click here.

If you or if you know anyone who is ready to step into a role that shapes coaches, strengthens communities, and supports the long‑term success of Welsh rugby we encourage you to apply now.
