Pontypool fly half Kieran Meek became the fourth player to reach a century of points in Super Rygbi Cymru when his side just missed out on snatching the Shield from Newport in last week’s round of matches.
The Black & Ambers had to come from behind to eventually pip Pooler at the post after the two teams shared 10 tries in a great advertisement for the league at Rodney Parade.
Meek, along with his young partner at scrum half, Ellis Lewis, put Pooler on the front foot against Newport but the defending champions dug deep to win the match at the death to finish the regular season in third place.
Meek (102 points) sits in fourth position as the league’s leading points scorer – but RGC’s Billy McBryde has accumulated more than double Meek’s tally to sit at atop of the pile with a staggering 214 points. Aberavon’s Keillen Cullen is in second spot with 118 points while Swansea’s Josh Phillips has 107.
You would have got long odds at the beginning of the season for a hooker to feature as one of the leading points scorers come the end of the regular season, but Ebbw Vale’s Ieuan Morris is just one try away from reaching triple figures.
He has racked up 19 tries to have 95 points next to his name – Cardiff’s Alun Rees and RGC’s Caio Parry are his nearest challengers with 13 tries apiece.
