Three tries in the final six minutes saw Vodacom Bulls pull away comfortably to record a 47-7 victory against Dragons RFC at Rodney Parade in the United Rugby Championship.
The superior power of the visiting Bulls paved the way for a seven-try salvo with Dragons only response coming from a first half try by centre Fine Inisi.
The Bulls brought on the cavalry from the bench and that only seemed to spur them on with Marco van Staden Devon Williams and Sergeal Petersen touching down late on to seal the win.
Embrose Papier scrambled over from close range after the Bulls had the Dragons defence scrambled. Handre Pollard added the easy conversion to give the visitors an early lead,
Dragons slowly worked their way into the game but saw a couple of promising situations come to nothing before centre Fine Inisi raced away from a floundering Bulls defence to give Cai Evans the easiest of conversions to level the score at 7-7.
Dragons then had a let off when Pollard’s penalty from the 10m line hit the posts to leave the Bulls still searching for points their dominance deserved.
Hooker Johann Grobbelaar exploded from a maul to put the Bulls 12-7 ahead with the match in the melting pot at the break.
Five minutes after the restart Bulls skipper Marcell Coetzee powered over and with Pollard’s conversion the Bulls had stretched their lead to 19-7.
Jared Rosser then had a try chalked off due to an earlier knock-on before the power from the South African side eventually told.
The try bonus point was clinched by Marco van Staden who charged over from close range and with Pollard’s conversion the lead had been stretched to 26-7. The replacement bagged a double as the Bulls power game began to leave gaping holes in the Dragons defence.
A Dragons handling error gifted full back Williams a runway score and Petersen put the icing on the cake when he raced over in the last minute to condemn Dragons to a heavy defeat.
