Pontypridd remain top of the Admiral Premiership but needed a second half comeback to win 34-31 at relegation battling Llanelli Wanderers.
The Valley Commandos trailed 31-15 at the break at Stradey Park – but 19 unanswered second half points eventually secured a bonus-point win for the league leaders.
First half tries from centre Josh Batcup, full-back Nick Gale, lock Jake Baker and flanker Ben Chiffi had seen the Wanderers threaten to pull off a stunning win as they look to climb out of the bottom two. Gale added four conversions and a penalty, but in the end they had to settle for two bonus points after the visitors rallied.
Hooker Connah Hughes, wing George Thorrington, flanker Cai James and replacements Rhodri Smith and Codi Purnell were the Pontypridd try scorers. Logan Jones kicked nine points.
Defending champions Merthyr remain three points behind in second, with two games in hand, after a thumping 63-0 defeat of Llangennech at The Wern.
The Ironmen led 14-0 at the break courtesy of tries from scrum-half James Soanes and outside half Ben Jones, with the latter converting both.
A further seven tries followed after the re-start; centre Adam Hoskins and wing Joseff Jones scored twice with Kodie Stone, Jack Kathrens and Dan Phillips also going over. Jacob Lloyd added all seven conversions.Beddau, in third, were narrow 26-24 victors at Cardiff Met, helped by tries from Ewan Roberts, Noah Daley, Jack Davies and a penalty try. Ollie Wilde kicked two conversions. Ryan Williams, Tom Weekley and Aaron Molnar were the Cardiff Met try scorers. Ross McKay kicked three conversions and a penalty.
Beddau welcome Merthyr to Mount Pleasant Park on Saturday and, with Pontypridd not in action, both sides have the opportunity to return to the top of the table.
Meanwhile, a four-try second half salvo from 20-year-old scrum-half Kaden Davies inspired Neath to a 36-23 victory over Cross Keys. Morgan Meaclem and Matthew Davies also scored tries for the Welsh All Blacks. Iestyn Morgan kicked three conversions.
An interception try by winger Victor Corrihons – who ran fully 90 metres to score – helped Keys into a 10-7 lead at the internal. It was converted by Josh Malsom, who also goaled a penalty.
Malsom struck two more penalties after the re-start and converted flanker Max Heathman’s try.
Newbridge, who began the latest round of games just one point and one place above the drop zone, gave their survival hopes a boost with a 34-12 win at bottom side Brecon. Two for Harry Jarvis and one each for Josh Thomas and Simon Veall were the Newbridge try scorers. Sam Watkins kicked 14 points.
The win moves Newbridge up three places and now four points above the bottom two. Arwel Hughes and Alwyn Lee grabbed the Brecon tries. Jake Newman kicked a conversion.
The defeat was a blow to Brecon’s hopes of pulling off a Great Escape. Kristian Dacey’s side had won their last three at home.Two tries from Kurtis Williams and one each for Logan Hutchings and Leon Moore helped secure a 30-25 win for Ystrad Rhondda over Narberth. Jacob Symes also sent over two conversions and two penalties.
Dean James, Jack Delaney and Josh Thomas touched down for Narberth, along with 10 points from the boot of Jonathan Rogers. The Otters are now just one place and two points above the drop zone.
