He may have recently racked up 200 appearances for his club, but Carmarthen Quins back row Lewys Millin is showing no signs of slowing down just yet in Super Rygbi Cymru.
He may have been on the losing side in the last week’s televised game against Swansea at Carmarthen Park, but Millin’s form has been so impressive over the course of the 15 rounds of action, he finds himself featuring in six of the various categories in the latest SRC stats update.
He is a runaway leader in the tackle count with a staggering 175 victims next to his name, Swansea’s Callum Bowden is his nearest challenger , albeit 30 tackles behind. RGC’s Charlies Probert – another consistent performer – is third with 138 tackles.
As well as being a staunch defender, Millin is a real workhorse for Quins in attack. He is third overall in the carries category with 140, although he has his work cut out to catch Pontypool’s Scott Matthews (153) and Aberavon’s Ashton Evans (198).
Post tackle, Matthews leads the way with 170 with Millin his nearest challenger with 105 while he sits in fourth spot when it comes to making dominant tackles (12). Three of his teammates are ahead of him with Jack Howells and Tom Phillips leading the pack with 15 apiece.
To cap things off, Millin is in the top five for most turnovers won and work + play.
“Lewys works so hard on his conditioning off the field there is little surprise he features strongly in the SRC stats,” said Quins director of rugby Steffan Thomas.
“He has a tremendous work ethic and is a very honest player, genuine 100% every time. For a local lad who never played any age grade or representative rugby, he’s certainly making up for it now as one of the top performers across the SRC.”
