Head coach Siwan Lillicrap has named a 44-player Wales U18 extended training squad for the forthcoming WU18s Six Nations Festival in Wellington College, England.
The extended squad meets up at Llandovery College for a three-day residential camp to kick off their training block.
Wales WU18s will play warm up games against Italy in Vicenza and Scotland in Edinburgh and the final 28-player WU18s squad will be named on March 25th.
Two of the players, scrum half Lily Hawkins and fly half Ffion Williams, have already made their debuts in the Celtic Challenge for Gwalia Lightning and Brython Thunder respectively.
The extended squad is made up of players who have represented or been part of the Welsh Rugby Union Player Development Centres based in Cardiff, Swansea and Colwyn Bay.
The 22 players from PDC East, 13 from PDC West and nine from PDC North prove the investment in the women’s player pathway is reaping rewards with player development thriving at all three centres.
Wales WU18s will face England, France, Italy and Scotland at Wellington College between April 2nd and April 10th.
Lillicrap, said: “This year we have had incredible strength in depth to select from, which is a real credit to the work the players have put in throughout the season to earn their place.
“As coaches and staff, we excited to work with this talented and ambitious squad over the coming months and build on the foundations already set in the colleges and PDCs.
“It’s a thrilling time for women’s rugby, with opportunities on the horizon and clear growth in the game globally over the past season.
“We cannot wait to get started and play our part in driving the momentum forward and continue the fantastic work happening on and off the field.”
