A severely depleted Ospreys side pushed Edinburgh all the way but fell agonisingly short to lose 19-17 at Hive Stadium.
Mark Jones was missing 23 front line players for this United Rugby Championship clash, but his band of brothers went toe to toe with the Scottish side to come away with a losing bonus point.
Edinburgh had the better of the early exchanges, but the Ospreys were able to defend their line without too much difficulty.
Eventually the Ospreys worked their way inside the Edinburgh 22 to set up an attacking line-out. Despite the presence of a number of backs, hooker Sam Parry broke from a driving maul but was held up over the line.
Edinburgh’s kick chase was blown apart in the 25th minute when the Ospreys cut loose for scrum half Luke Davies to finish off an attack which started inside the Ospreys half.
Daniel Kasende scampered down the touchline before passing infield to Davies who fed a galloping Evradi Boshoff. The big centre was cut down just short of the line but a sweet pop pass to the supporting Davies saw the visitors hit the lead.
Edinburgh drew level in the 35th minute when highly rated Tom Currie powered over from close range.
Jones however would have been pleased at halftime as the teams went down the tunnel 5-5 and were well in the game despite having so many players unavailable while home fans showed their discontent as the Edinburgh players searched for the sanctuary of the changing rooms to regroup.
Phil Cokanasiga put the Ospreys back in front four minutes after the break when he side-stepped through some questionable Edinburgh defence. Jack Walsh struck the posts for the second time to leave the Ospreys 10-5 ahead.
It took 55 minutes for the home side to hit the lead for the first time. Edinburgh had a strong drive close to the Ospreys line and hooker Harri Morris burst clear to score. Ross Thompson added the extras to put Edinburgh 12-10 ahead.
As the match unfolded the Edinburgh scrum began to seize control and forced the Ospreys to concede a number of penalties at the set piece.
The visitors continued to battle away, frustrating the home side with their dogged defence but eventually the sheer weight of possession told.
Finn Thompson deftly chipped behind the Ospreys defence for Harry Patterson to pounce. Cammy Scott’s conversion put Edinburgh 19-10 ahead with nine minutes remaining.
Ospreys refused to buckle and Boshoff was put through by midfield partner Cokanasiga. Walsh’s conversion made it a two-point game with four minutes remaining.
Ospreys searched for a moment of magic for an unlikely victory but Edinburgh held on to claim their second win of the campaign.
