Have your say - WRU public survey into future of elite rugby now live

The survey is open until the end of September

The Welsh rugby community is encouraged to share its views and suggestions on ‘proposed optimal system’

The Welsh Rugby Union today opened its public engagement survey into the future of elite rugby in Wales, giving supporters, players at all levels, rugby volunteers, clubs and communities their chance to help shape the next chapter of the game.

The survey, which can be found on the One Wales mini site, is open until the end of September and invites views on a range of possible models for professional rugby in Wales. The WRU has also issued an open letter to call upon the entire rugby family, from grassroots to elite level, to take part and ensure their voices are heard.

The survey seeks views on what drives fan support for Welsh rugby, the priorities for investment, and attitudes towards change and performance at national and regional level. While most questions are multiple choice, there is also space for open comments, allowing people to share what the game means to them and their ideas for its future.

Speaking about the survey, WRU Director of Rugby and Elite Performance, Dave Reddin, said: “This is an open invitation to everyone who cares about Welsh rugby. The survey is easy to access, and it’s designed for everyone involved in the game in Wales, whether you’re a lifelong season-ticket holder, a club volunteer, or someone who follows Wales from afar, your opinion counts. We want as many people as possible to take part, because the future of our sport belongs to all of us.”

The consultation sets out different options for how the elite game might be structured and funded in the years ahead. By completing the survey, members of the public will ensure their opinions and suggestions are considered as part of the recommendations to be made to the WRU Board on the way forward for Welsh rugby.

Reddin added: “The feedback we receive will help guide key decisions about the future shape of elite rugby in Wales.

“This engagement survey and the consultation in general, is the opportunity for anyone with an interest in Welsh rugby, to express their view on the proposals we have shared and importantly suggest ways we can improve them as well as alternatives. We have an opportunity to build solid foundations for the future of the game here in Wales, and we can’t do that without you, so please take the time to share your views, your opinion counts.”

The WRU will review all responses before presenting recommendations to the Board in October, with outcomes expected to be published later that month.
