Adams climbs to fifth on Welsh all-time try list

Try time for Josh Adams and Wales against Fiji in Bordeaux in 2023

One of the best sights in Wales’ second Test win in Japan was seeing Josh Adams scoring a try and making another as the losing run was finally put to bed with a 31-22 win in Kobe.

The 30-year-old Cardiff Rugby wing was sent racing clear for the first score by full back Blair Murray and bolted his way to the try line. It has become a familiar sight for Welsh fans since he first made his debut against Scotland on 30 January 2018.

Adams won his 63rd cap in that second summer Test and touched down for his 22nd Welsh try – moving him level with Colin Charvis in fifth place on the all-time try coring list for his country.

His next target is the current British & Irish Lions tour manager and chair Ieuan Evans, on 33, with the Welsh record still in the hands of Shane Williams with 58.

The try in Japan will have been a huge tonic for Adams, who has battled back to full fitness after a hamstring injury curtailed his Six Nations campaign earlier in the year. It was his first international try since the opening game of the World Cup in France against Fiji on 10 September 2023.

A fully fit and firing Adams, who was the top try scorer at the 2018 World Cup with seven tries and for the 2021 British & Irish Lions with eight, will be a huge asset to both club and country with many believing his best years are still ahead of him.

With Wales playing four games in the Autumn Nations Series against Argentina (9 November), Japan (15 November), New Zealand (22 November) and South Africa (29 November) he should get plenty of opportunities to add to his tally later in the year.
