Brython targeting Glasgow double to end on a high

Gwen Crabb scored a hat-trick against Glasgow last week

Brython Thunder will be seeking a repeat of their 33-17 win last weekend over Glasgow Warriors as they look to end their second Celtic Challenge campaign on a high.

The fact they are playing the same opponents, albeit at home this time, should fill them with confidence and Ashley Beck will no doubt be hoping his team can match their three wins of last season to ensure they finish ahead of their Scottish rivals in the tale.

Coming a few weeks before Wales travel to Scotland to open their Women’s Guinness Six Nations campaign there will also be an extra bit of national pride injected into proceedings as both sides seek to finish their season with a win.

The game is at Parc Y Scarlets on Sunday 9 March (12 noon kick-off) and will be the last chance for Brython’s Wales Six Nations Squad members Stella Orin, Rosie Carr, Cadi-Lois Davies, Robyn Davies, Gwen Crabb, Lucy Isaac, Hannah Bluck and Niamh Terry to give new head coach Sean Lynn a nudge ahead of the tournament.

Second row Gwen Crabb certainly did that last weekend with her hat-trick of tries and she will no doubt want to push hard to add to her 28 caps to date.

“Gwen provided everything you want to see from a modern day second row last weekend – power at the set-piece and in the close quarter work, and pace and athleticism with the ball in her hands,” said Brython head coach Ashley Beck.

“We’re looking for a repeat performance to last weekend in a bid to match the three wins we registered in last season’s tournament and to finish ahead of Glasgow. We realise they will be smarting from their defeat at home and we can take nothing for granted.

“A lot of highly promising young Welsh players have been taken out of their comfort zone throughout this Celtic Challenge, and they will be all the better for it moving forward. Now we want to end on a high to give our fans something to cheer.”

Wales U18 half backs Hannah Marshall and Seren Singleton will take another step along their steep learning curves. Singleton is one of four players of national interest who has been invited by Lynn to train with the Wales Squad.

Beck has made one change to his backline from last week’s game by giving Marshall a start at No 10 ahead of Terry. Up front, Rosie Carr returns at hooker in place of Chloe Grant and Catrin Jones replaces Lucy Isaac in the back row.
