RGC made it four wins on the spin at Parc Eirias with a Billy McBryde inspired victory over bottom side Swansea in Super Rygbi Cymru.

The former Wales U20 outside half pulled the strings for the Gogs as he ran in a try, kicked two conversions as well as landing five penalties for a 24-point personal haul in the 34-20 triumph.

The north Walians have won all but one of their home matches in SRC so far, with the only defeat on their own patch coming against Cardiff on the opening weekend.

Meanwhile the game against Swansea was their last at home before Christmas, as they now gear up for trips to Aberavon, Cardiff, Llandovery and Bridgend. Josh Leach’s side are yet to win on the road this season.

“I thought our discipline was poor in the first half – and we gave them territory as a result. We had spoken about that pre-game but, after coming in at half time, we addressed it and you could see the difference, both on the field and scoreboard,” said Leach.

“We took the penalties when they were on offer, built the score and built the momentum, establishing a good lead. Credit to Dylan Alford who made his debut in the second row – and made a huge impact – and it didn’t look like his first game in an RGC shirt.

“We knew these four away games were coming up and the boys are excited about spending some good time together on the bus taking us up to Christmas. It starts with Aberavon next Saturday and we look forward to getting on the road again.”

McBryde split the posts with a penalty from inside his own half to put RGC ahead after six minutes but, two minutes later, Swansea hit back to lead with a try from a driving maul, with hooker Jamie Cox claiming the try.

Outside half Josh Phillips converted and then added a penalty to put the Whites 10-3 to the good. RGC responded with a try of their own off a driving maul from a lineout with hooker Jac Petch-Jones going over, although McBryde’s conversion attempt hit the uprights.

He did nail two penalty attempts from the tee to put his side 14-10 up at the break – and followed that up with two more kicks within seven minutes of the re-start to extend the RGC lead to 20-10.

Back came Swansea, with Phillips’ defence splitting kick putting right wing Ieuan Cornelius in to score on 51 minutes to pull them back to five points behind with the conversion missed.

However, any hopes the visitors had of securing their first win of the season were finally dashed with tries either side of the hour mark from number eight Sam Williams and then McBryde – who added the extras to both scores.

Replacement Iwan Temblett did grab a third Swansea try in the closing moments, which went unconverted, but this was defeat number eight from as many matches for Hugh Gustafson’s side – ahead of a home clash with Ebbw Vale.
