Brython Thunder hit the road to play the Wolfhounds in Round 4 of the Celtic Challenge at the Kingspan Stadium in Belfast on Saturday, January 27th (KO:7:30pm).

The Welsh side face a tough challenge against the top of the table side in the new expanded Celtic Challenge, featuring sides from Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

Captain Alex Callender will lead a team still looking for its first win after a much-improved performance in the 22-17 defeat to Edinburgh Rugby at Parc y Scarlets in Round 3.

Ashley Beck, Head coach of Brython Thunder, said: “We made significant strides against Edinburgh and look like a team with real potential and threats with the ball in hand. We scored some good tries, but we know how tough the Wolfhounds will be at the Kingspan.

“They are the top of the table side and have won all three games so far in the tournament, but this is the type of challenge we relish, and we are looking forward to another improved performance away from home.”

Gwalia Lightning return to Welsh soil to face an Edinburgh Rugby side in clash of second and third place in Round 4 of the Celtic Challenge at Cardiff Arms Park on Sunday, January 28th. (KO: 1.30pm).

Lock Bryonie King will captain the Welsh side, unbeaten at home, against the side from the Scottish capital as the expanded Celtic Challenge between sides from Ireland, Scotland and Wales resumes.

Wales and Exeter Chiefs fly half Robyn Wilkins, who played for her country in WXV1 in New Zealand, makes her debut for the Lightning in the Welsh capital.

Tess Evans, who hails from Australia, has impressed in training and make her first start for the Lightning at Number 8.

Cat Nicholas-McLaughlin, Head coach of the Gwalia Lightning, said: “We are looking forward to the final run of games in the tournament and returning to play on home soil against an Edinburgh team buoyant after their last win in Wales.

“But we know if we stick to our gameplan and structures that we are a match for any team in the Celtic Challenge.  We fully intend to build on our impressive performances so far and there were lessons for us to take on board in our last game out in Ireland.”

Nel Metcalfe, Gwennan Hopkins and Catherine Richards are unavailable for selection due to Gloucester-Hartpury commitments.
