A very strong line-up involving the top teams and best men’s and women’s players in the world are ready to showcase the speed, skill and end-to-end drama of rugby sevens to a huge global audience in what promises to be an exhilarating three days of competition, culminating in the medal matches on Sunday 31 July.

New Zealand’s All Blacks Sevens will begin their title defence against Sri Lanka in the men’s competition and the Black Ferns Sevens will open against Canada in the women’s event.

Wales men will open their campaign against Canada in the penultimate game of the morning session tomorrow before taking on unknown quanitity Zambia in the evening session. Richie Pugh’s last pool game will be the last game on the morning session against Fiji on Saturday.

“This is a big occasion for the boys, we don’t get the opportunity to play in mult-sports events, they are one off tournaments. It’s a huge platform to showcase to show what you are about as a player on the world stage,” said Pugh.

“It’s going to be special as family members will be able to watch the boys play and that is something that doesn’t happen on the world series. It’s a special one-off occasion.”
