The first of eight dramatic days of cup finals on the ‘Road to Principality 2022’ kicks-off at the home of Welsh rugby tomorrow, with a hat-trick of helpings in the National Youth Cup.
First up will be Lampeter Town v Llandaff in the Bowl final (kick-off 11am), while the Plate final will see Abergavenny tackle Cwmavon (kick-off 1.15pm). The final battle for the Cup will be between unbeaten Builth Wells against Bridgend Athletic (kick-off 3.30pm).
Builth beat Penarth at home in the semi-final 17-11 thanks to tries from Ciaran Price and Alecs Williams plus two conversions and a penalty from Rhys Davies. Strong running centre, Williams, also scored in the quarter-final win over Neath Athletic and the 27-5 triumph over Ammanford.
The National Youth Cup Final has showcased some great future talent in the past with Cardiff, Wales and British & Irish Lions wing Josh Adams one of the try scorers for Carmarthen Athletic in their 43-12 win over Gorseinon in 2013.
Bridgend Athletic are the only team of the six to have been to Principality Stadium before. They appeared in the 2017 final, when they lost to Treorchy. The club is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.
The Abergavenny Youth team will no doubt be inspired by the success of their senior side who were winners in the WRU National Bowl final in 2019.
