Wakley asks players to grab their chance in Vichy

Having the pick of the crop coming through the UK School Games unscathed last week in Loughborough, Wales Women’s 7s coach Nick Wakley is optimistic his young side can cause a few surprises in this weekend’s Rugby Europe U18s Championship in Vichy, France.

Wakley used last week’s UK School Games as a final trial where East Wales and West Wales were comprised of players vying for national squad spots.

“There were some tough decisions to make as a number of girls put their hands up for selection,” said Wakley.

“This was highlighted in a very physically demanding semi-final of the Bowl where both teams went head to head.”

Wales will face Sweden, Andorra and Spain in their group on Saturday and Wakley is eager to see how the squad blends together.

“We have some physical players, with some x-factor out wide so I’m hoping they take this chance on the big stage,” added Wakley.
