Tandy’s eyes on home semi-final

A Judgement Day triumph booked the Ospreys a place in the Guinness PRO12 playoffs, and now Head Coach Steve Tandy is eyeing a home semi-final.

The Liberty Stadium side came from behind to beat Cardiff Blues 31-23 at the Millennium Stadium and guarantee a spot in the semi-finals. But they face a stern test at home to Glasgow Warriors in their next league encounter in a clash that could decide who faces who in the post-season playoffs.

And Tandy is determined to topple the league leaders and send a statement before to their high-flying rivals.

He said: “It’s great for the group, a real achievement, as was qualifying for the Champions Cup. But we are not satisfied. We have to keep going and tidy up a hell of a lot in our performance, particularly our first-half display, because I don’t think we’d claw those things back against Glasgow. When we get into a good rhythm and do the basics well, we score some outstanding tries.

“Glasgow will be a real good test for us when they come down to the Liberty. They had a really good win over Connacht. So we have to make sure we perform a bit better. We’ll recover over the next couple of days, get set and then get ready for hopefully a long run-in.”

Tandy’s men end their season at Connacht after their meeting with Glasgow, and could finish top of the tree with two victories. And the Head Coach reckons they can get even better.

He said: “We weren’t quite peaking against the Blues. A bonus-point win is a real positive, but – and this is no disrespect to the Blues – against Glasgow we are going to have to be better. The Blues really had a pop at us and try to play, so I take my hat off to them. But we will have to be better when we play teams like Glasgow and Connacht away.”
