Tries from Lee Pearson, Ross Coombes, Kieron Brown, Lewis Protheroe and two from Geraint Edmonds in a 34-12 win sent Llanharan crashing to another defeat. They remain three points above bottom-placed Tondu.
Rhys Morgan and Nathan Harris went over for consolation tries for Llanharan, but there was little that could be done to stop the league leader’s winning run continuing.
Elsewhere, Narberth picked up a vital home win at home to Pontypool, and are now just one point behind their opponents. Pontypool led 7-5 at half time and looked set to continue their good run of form and take home the points.
But the home side had other ideas. With just five minutes left, up stepped outside-half Ianto Griffiths, who duly converted a penalty from range to secure a dramatic 8-7 victory. The young Welshman had missed several kicks in the second and looked as relieved as he was delighted.
There was drama too, in the match between Cardiff Met and Newbridge. A closely fought first half saw Newbridge take a slight advantage, going in 6-3 up at the break. With Luke O’Brien and Tyler Williams helping themselves to tries in the second half, it looked as though the students would secure a valuable home win.
But the script was to be torn up, as Kieran Meek scored with a penalty as the referee blew the final whistle. This important victory for Newbridge meant they moved to within 6 points of 10th placed Glynneath.
Swansea continued their impressive season, beating Bridgend Athletic 20-15 at home. The Whites raced into a 20-5 first half lead with Andrew Claypole and Liam Popham going over. Bridgend looked in no mood to be
walked over in the second half, however, as they took the game to Swansea.
A bad tempered 10 minutes saw Matt Norman for Bridgend Athletic and Justin Hughes of Swansea see yellow as the away side had Swansea hearts in mouths. But the All Whites hung on to win, although dropped a further point behind Bargoed by not picking up a bonus point.
RGC 1404’s recent run of demolitions went on, with a 41-22 win over Tondu. In an exciting match that saw players and fans brave hostile conditions, RGC notched up five tries before half time. Their rampant form continued into the second half with Richard Hopkins among a host of impressive personal performances.
A spirited performance could not stop Blackwood from being comfortably beaten at home by Tata Steel. Decent first-half kicking from Steve Lewis and tries from Andrew Gwin were enough to mean there was too much for 12th place Blackwood to do in the second half.
Elsewhere, Merthyr remain 10 points behind Swansea after a 20-14 away win over Glynneath. The home side did not seem to settle into the match and two tries from Harry Millard meant a happy journey home for the Ironmen, who remain third.
