Tries from captain Adam Brake and replacement back rower Richard Jones were enough for Cymru to complete the win at Cardiff Arms Park.

After a period of early English pressure, Wales took an undeserved lead when captain Adam Brake crashed over from a rolling maul on 25 minutes. Full-back Celyn Ashton could not convert, but he was on target minutes later with a simple penalty to extend the hosts’ lead.

Two missed kicks from England scrum-half Ollie Fountain and some crucial handling errors proved costly in a scrappy first half, which was dominated by the forwards.

After the break it was the home side who went further ahead when replacement Richard Jones wriggled over from close range. Ashton added the extras to make it 15-0. Wales continued to assert their superiority in the second half, winning another penalty on 62 minutes which was expertly kicked by Ashton.

And after Wales’s David Brake was sin-binned for an infringement, England scored a consolation try courtesy of Cameron Roberts but Fountain’s conversion hit a post. The victory for Wales Deaf is their third successive win over England and they retain the coveted Broadstreet Cup.
