Newport Gwent Dragons flanker Nic Cudd will not let emotion get the better of him when he takes on former side the Scarlets this Friday.

The openside flanker departed Parc Y Scarlets at the end of 2012 after a spate of injuries stalled his career at his home region. Since his move to the Dragons,

Cudd has earned rave reviews for his performances, and picked up the man-of-the-match award for his stellar display against the Ospreys in their Judgement Day defeat. He is now set to face his former side in the Dragons’ second Welsh derby in three weeks but Cudd will not be overawed by the occasion.

“It’ll be good to get out there and play against my old team,” said Cudd.

“I don’t take a personal approach, it’s just another game at the end of the day. I try and play every game the same way, if I have too much of an agenda it may affect my game in a negative way.

“It’s strange walking into the away dressing room, I’ve only been back once. It’s odd, but the Dragons are my team.

“The Scarlets were happy I got the move to the Dragons and the chance to play professionally and they’ve been nothing but supportive.”

Cudd is hoping to finish the season in style after a disappointing 2014 to date for the Dragons. The Men of Gwent only have just the one league win since the turn of the year, against Glasgow in February.

“It’s a push to become the third placed Welsh region, but we want to finish the season on a high by winning these last two games,” added Cudd.

“We need to give something back to the supporters as well. They’ve been good to us all season and it will be good to finish on a high going into next season.

“It’s been a disappointing few months since we beat Glasgow. That’s the only game we’ve won in the league this year. It’s been disappointing because we started the season well, we were mid-table until February, but it’s been disappointing since then. We’ve kept losing games that we could have won.”
