They secured the title with 68 points on the board after winning 14 of their 17 games, with a game still left to play.

Cefn Fforest’s fixture against Sea View, saw them take home a convincing 55-12 victory to secure the title.

Despite already winning the league in their previous match against Aberbargoed, Cefn Fforest’s supporters travelled to the away match to celebrate their first league win in years in a performance filled with tries and “champagne rugby” according to the Team Manager, Mike Murphy.

Cefn Fforest captain Kris Meredith is responsible for scoring a whopping 29 tries over the course of the season. Meredith, said: “What makes the difference for us is that everyone who plays for Cefn Forest is from Cefn Fforest. Most of the boys have been together for 10 years and we’ve been through a lot together – a lot of hidings on the pitch a few years ago which has made us stronger.

“We’re like a band of brothers. This league win is awesome for the club. I’ve been captain now for seven years and this is the icing on the cake – what an occasion! We’ve won the league and reached the cup final. It’s nice to finally put Cefn Forest back on the map.”

Murphy also paid tribute to his captain who has been a lynchpin at the club.

“The amount of tries that boy has scored this season has been absolutely phenomenal. Now Mr O’Driscoll has hung up his boots I’m sure he’d be a great replacement for him. Unfortunately for Ireland he’s not Irish!”

Mike Murphy, who announced his retirement in his role after their final match, explained: “This season has certainly been an emotional rollercoaster. We got off to a flying start then the weather hit us and before we knew it we were six games behind. Fair play to them, the boys dug deep playing two games a week and the run that we’ve been on recently has been second to none.

“I want to thank my coaching staff, the players and the supporters who have been phenomenal throughout the season. We’ve grown as a team and we’ve come up against tough teams, Llanrumney, CIACS, Aberbargoed – they’re never easy games. But we’ve come through those tests and we look forward to what next season brings.”
