Delegates gathered at the Millennium Stadium to discuss the latest industry research and practices as well as be informed of the WRU’s injury surveillance and prevention programmes.

A year on from the inaugural event, the conference attracted keynote speakers from the WRU, British Olympic Association, Irish Rugby Football Union as well as leading sports medicine specialists.

Organised by the WRU’s National Medical Manager, Prav Mathema and National Team Sports Physician, Geoff Davies, the conference began with an update on the WRU’s medical practices and a review of the WRU Injury Surveillance report and specialist projects.

Industry experts then focused on the hamstring, together with groin and hip injuries, detailing the latest decision making processes, intervention techniques, injury management and rehabilitation.

Speaking at the conclusion of the conference, Mr Mathema said, “It was great to host the second WRU Annual Sports Medicine Conference and attract so many delegates and keynote speakers.

“Having built on the success of last year, this year we delivered the WRU medical update and then focused on specific areas of injury prevalence at this time.

“The event helps us keep Wales at the forefront of sports medicine development and importantly deliver the highest possible sports medicine to our players and athletes.”

Dr Geoff Davies added, “The conference attracted a range of sports medicine practitioners and provided a platform to share knowledge and best practices.

“It’s a great opportunity for all involved to participate and share current practice and experience in one environment.”
